Mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) is an important short-duration legume widely cultivated in Asia, valued for its nutritional and agronomic traits. In Timor-Leste, mungbean productivity remains low due to limited genetic diversity, reliance on traditional landraces, and exposure to abiotic and biotic stresses. This study evaluated ten mungbean genotypes, including five advanced filial-7 hybrids, two parental lines, and three local landraces, under rainfed field conditions at the Raitahu Research Centre, Viqueque District, during the first cropping season of 2024. Morphological, phenological, and yield-related traits were assessed using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Significant genetic variability was observed in vegetative traits, flowering and maturity times, pod and seed characteristics, and grain yield. Genotypes G05 and G09 exhibited superior performance with early flowering, longer pods, higher seed numbers, larger seeds, and increased yield, whereas landraces such as AH, HCB, and LB demonstrated vigorous vegetative growth and adaptability traits. These findings highlight the potential of early-flowering, high-yielding genotypes for direct cultivation or use as elite parents, while landraces provide valuable traits for broadening the genetic base in breeding programs. This study provides critical insights for mungbean improvement strategies aimed at enhancing productivity and resilience under rainfed conditions in Timor-Leste.
